CHAPTER ELEVEN

MADDOX

“Hurry the hell up. I don’t want to be here all night, old man,” I tease Sal as he works to put some of the smaller equipment back.

“Shut the hell up, like you have anywhere else to go,” he spits back at me. The door to the gym opens, and just as I’m about to yell over my shoulder that we’re closed, I nearly drop the pile of equipment I have in my arms when I see who walks in.

A woman with purple hair that I’ve seen walking around comes in, and right next to her is Nikki. Fuck, was she not able to get her club to agree to drop the misunderstanding? I can’t blame them if they demand I pay for what I’ve done to her. I deserve it.

The woman with the purple hair walks right by me with only a small nod in my direction, while Nikki spears me with a hot look and a smirk on her lips as she follows behind her friend. They walk to Sal, and the old man lights up as he embraces the woman with purple hair with one arm.

“Hey Venom, what’re you beautiful ladies doing over here?”

I fight to keep my hands moving, so it doesn’t seem like I’m eavesdropping on their conversation. Sal must know her.

“You know me. I’m here to beg,” Venom says as she takes one of the pads out of Sal’s hand and dumps it into the small footlocker where we store them.

Sal drops the rest of them and turns to face her. “What do you want now?”

“Do you think you’d be able to watch Peyton tonight so Ricochet and I can have a date night?” The woman puts her hands in front of her chest as if she’s praying, and Sal barely sighs before he nods his head. The old man’s as soft as a marshmallow.

“You know I’d never miss a chance to spend time with that little firecracker. She keeps me on my toes! Speaking of, have you guys had a chance to meet my newest trainer?”

Fuck! I don’t know what Nikki told them. I toss the stuff I have in my hand where it goes. I’ll just play it cool and follow her lead.

“No, I don’t think we have.” Venom says as the three of them stop right in front of me. I put my hand out to shake both of their hands.

“Maddox, this is Venom, and this is Nikki.” Venom shakes my hand politely, but Nikki caresses my palm first before she shakes my hand, that knowing smirk still on her face. She loves playing with me. She always has. The girl was a handful even when she was a little teenager running with my sister.

Venom backs away, but I don’t let Nikki’s hand go, so she has no choice but to stay right in front of me. “Strong girl, have you ever thought about training?”

“Training? To fight?” Nikki asks.

“To fight, to learn, to sweat. Whatever you prefer,” I say, rubbing my finger over her knuckles.
